Businesswoman and architect Yermys Peña received the prestigious Quisqueyanos para el Mundo “Women of the 21st Century” award from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by Minister Roberto Álvarez. This award honors eight Dominican women who are breaking traditional patterns, redefining the role of women and projecting the Dominican Republic internationally.
Peña is CEO of Construger and CEO of Studio YP, which have brought the name of the Dominican Republic to an international level. Among her achievements are the design and construction of the Vista 311 corporate building, with LEED Gold certification, Eco 23 Residences, a mixed-use building, she was selected to lead the sustainability project and LEED certification at Visions Brickell Station, Miami, Florida, by the Urban Network Capital Group, as well as the Edgewaters Building and Aventura Harbor projects in Miami.
“I celebrate an achievement that is beyond me! From being the first female commercial airline pilot to climbing Mount Everest, each of us has shown that courage and talent have no limits. As an architect and entrepreneur in the construction sector, I am deeply proud to be part of this brave generation of women leading the way towards a sustainable future full of possibilities,” said the architect.
This award not only celebrates her personal achievements, but also inspires future generations of Dominican women to follow in her footsteps. Among the honorees are Azilde Lissett Nuñez, the first Dominican woman to pilot a large-capacity commercial aircraft; Betzaida Ubri Mateo, Physical Education teacher and first coach of the national U-17 women’s soccer team; Dayanny De La Cruz, Chef, the first Dominican and Latina to lead food and beverage operations for the Super Bowl in 2019; Mónika Infante Henríquez, the first CEO of Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (AERODOM), a subsidiary of Vinci Airports; Thais Herrera, an outstanding mountaineer, the first Dominican woman to climb Mount Everest; Onfalia Morillo Messina, the first sports journalist; and Yissel Infante, the first manager of a professional baseball team in the Dominican Baseball League (LIDOM)/Los Gigantes del Cibao.
Peña is also a person with a strong influence on social media, well-known for her work in disseminating topics related to finance and real estate investments, facilitating through her projects models for purchasing ideal plans to obtain high profitability. She is a frequent guest on Univision, Despierta América, La Mesa Caliente de Telemundo, HOLA! USA, VIX, Imagen Magazine, and collaborates with other media outlets in the United States and the Dominican Republic.
