BELLINGHAM, Wash.- SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics , is pleased to welcome 47 new members to the Society’s Fellows. They join a class of Fellows recognized for outstanding technical achievements and significant contributions to the optics and photonics community and to SPIE. Fellows are members who have made significant scientific and technical contributions in the interdisciplinary fields of optics, photonics, and imaging. More than 1,800 SPIE members have become Fellows since the Society’s founding in 1955.

This year’s nominees are distinguished leaders from academia, industry, and government, many of whom have distinguished themselves by their support of the optics and photonics communities and their mentoring of others. The 2025 Fellows include Jeremy Voss , Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Michigan Technological University; Sona Hosseini , Research and Instrument Scientist, Planetary Science Division, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology; Martin Ettenberg , Founder and CTO, Princeton Infrared Technologies; Mikhail Katz, Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Wisconsin-Madison and active advocate in the photonics community; Darren Robleyer , Associate Professor, Department of Biomedical Engineering and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Boston University and Editor-in-Chief of the SPIE journal Biophotonics Discovery ; and Katie Schwartz , Senior Manager, Edmund Optics and recipient of the 2024 SPIE Chairman’s Award. Tsu-Te Judith They include Su, associate professor of biomedical engineering and optical science in the Wyant College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona, and Jess Wade , a research fellow and lecturer in functional materials at the Royal Society University of Imperial College London and chair of SPIE’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
