Iconic sonero Papo Medina returns with a new single that promises to set dance floors alight. “ Salsa Pa’ Todo El Día ,” a composition by talented Cuban Jorge Del Valle, features a musical arrangement by Ramón Sánchez and the vibrant percussion of Luisito Quintero.
Latin Expression , also known as Expresión Latina, is not a new group in the salsa scene. This tremendous orchestra, formed in Seattle in May 1986 by composer and singer Francisco “Papo” Medina , in collaboration with his son Jr. Medina, Ted Bowden, Dennis Haldane and other talented musicians, has left an indelible mark on the genre.
Today, this 12-piece ensemble is comprised of vocalists, horns, and a rhythm and percussion section. This combination has made Latin Expression a powerful orchestra, performing from Canada to Los Angeles, filling halls, clubs, and festivals, always delighting the dancer.
In 1997, Papo Medina and his orchestra released their first CD titled Realidad under the Tocolo Música label. This production, nominated for a NAMA award, included eight original compositions, highlighting the fan favorites Realidad and Aléjate.
The year 2005 brought the long-awaited release of 9 Días de Rumba, recorded in Medellín, Colombia. Produced by Papo Medina with arrangements and direction by Orlando Libreros, this album includes the special participation of Diego and Jaime Gallé, who brought Colombian flavor to Puerto Rican salsa. With 11 songs, this album was designed for salsa dancers and lovers.
Latin Expression has been described as “Northwest Salsa’s Best Kept Secret,” but with the international release of 9 Días de Rumba, the secret is out.
In 2019, Papo Medina returned with the album Nunca Es Tarde, which he has been working on since 2017 and includes the hit La Rumba De Papo, delighting salsa fans to this day. Maestro Papo Medina, a tireless worker in the genre, continues to contribute to the world of salsa with his unparalleled talent.
