November 1 marks the start of the health insurance registration process in the United States, a decisive moment for families, due to the impliAcations of finding quality insurance with good coverage. But also, due to the increase in fraud and scams as these dates approach.

“If you receive a call, you must first verify the identity. Never give personal or sensitive information, such as your social security number, to anyone who calls claiming to be from their insurance company, without first verifying their identity. Always hang up, and call the company’s official number directly to ensure the call is legitimate,” explains Carla Mendoza, insurance specialist and director of CM Insurance.

The expert was recently chosen as one of the 12 most successful women in Miami by “Estylo Magazine”, along with other personalities such as Adamari López, Jessica Carrillo, Karen Padín, among others. The selection was accompanied by a photo session and the recognition of “Empowered Women” at an event to unveil the cover of this special edition.

“We must choose a recommended and reliable insurance advisor. With the recent changes in the health market, it is mandatory to provide all the necessary information when applying for insurance, or requesting a change. A legitimate and accredited advisor will guide you appropriately,” adds Mendoza, a Venezuelan lawyer and journalist, with vast experience in 34 states of the country at the head of CM Insurance Advisors.

The Federal Trade Commission also notes that there are scammers who claim to work for the government, but warns that an agency will never call people out of the blue to ask for money or personal information. People should also be on the lookout for scammers who try to sell fake discounted health plans.

“The most important thing is to stay up to date on the most common fraudulent tactics, such as call centers that pretend to be insurance companies. Be wary of suspicious offers and people who insist on obtaining your personal information immediately. If you have any doubts, consult your insurer directly or look for references from reliable sources,” Mendoza warns.
