NOVI, Mich.-Lineage, Inc. (NASDAQ: LINE) (“Company”), the world’s largest temperature-controlled warehouse REIT, today released additional details about the Food Chain Innovation Challenge , including the judges and grand prize for the prestigious competition.
The call for effective solutions to overcome food waste comes at a critical time, as the number of food insecure people is expected to rise to nearly one billion by 2028. Lineage’s global competition invites students and startups to showcase their innovative technologies or data solutions that address post-harvest food waste.
The Food Chain Innovation Challenge will take place in three major locations: London on November 14, and Amsterdam and San Francisco on November 19. Students, start-ups and other qualified candidates who want to participate can submit their applications online until September 30.
At each event, participants will pitch their solutions to reduce food waste to a high-profile regional panel of judges. The panel will select a regional winner who will receive a cash prize of $5,000 and a spot in the grand finale on December 2. The final round will then determine the winner of the grand prize of $50,000, along with an invitation to a six-month executive-led incubator program tailored to the winner’s individual business goals.
London
The London event will take place on 14 November 2024 at The Science Museum. Clare Walters, Regional Vice President at Lineage, will join a distinguished judging panel including Simon Millard, Director of Food at FareShare, Harriet Lamb, CEO at WRAP, and Paul Randle from the Cambridge Institute for Sustainable Leaders at the University of Cambridge. To support the aspiring innovators, ReLondon and FoodCycle will partner with the Food Chain Innovation Challenge to provide participants with valuable insights and help them perfect their pitches.
Amsterdam
The Amsterdam event will be held on November 19, 2024 at the NEMO Science Museum. Harld Peters, European President at Lineage, is one of the names of a high-profile jury that includes Toine Timmermans, Director at Samen Tegen Voedselverspilling, Enno Masurel, Professor of Sustainable Entrepreneurship at the Free University of Amsterdam, and Esteban Arriaga, CEO at FEBA (European Food Banks Federation).
San Francisco
The San Francisco event will take place on November 19, 2024 at the California Academy of Sciences. Jeff Rivera, Global Chief Operations Officer of Lineage, will join a distinguished jury including Angel Veza, Capital, Innovation and Engagement Senior Manager at ReFED, Danielle Todd, Founder and Executive Director of Make Food Not Waste, and Michael Wara, Director, Climate and Energy Policy Initiative at the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment and Senior Director, Policy, at the Sustainability Accelerator at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability.

At the events, participants are asked to present their ideas in four specific categories: minimizing food waste, food preservation techniques, access to nutritious foods, and data-driven insights and analysis.
