Celebrated mixing engineer Luis Barrera Jr. has been honored with three Latin Grammys, cementing his position as one of today’s most influential engineers. The awards are a testament to the teamwork and passion shared by those involved in these projects.
The son of Mexican parents and raised on the U.S.-Mexico border, Barrera Jr. participated in the award-winning albums “El principio” by Grupo Frontera (Best Norteño Music Album); “Te llevo en la sangre” by Alejandro Fernández (Best Ranchera Music Album); and “García” by Kany García (Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album).
“I want to dedicate these triumphs to our entire Mexican culture. It is a demonstration of how collaboration is the key to success, working closely with artists from different genres to create music that transcends borders,” said the engineer.
His ability to connect with different musical styles and his skill to bring out the best in each artist, make him an invaluable collaborator in the music industry today.
The expert had previously tasted success countless times. He was a mixing or recording engineer on productions such as “La Bicicleta” by Shakira & Carlos Vives, winner of the Latin Grammy; “A quien quieres escucha” by Ricky Martin, winner of the American Grammy; and “Forajido EP2” by Christian Nodal, winner of the Latin Grammy, among others.
Barrera Jr. invested in his own recording studio in Miami, where he has worked with top artists: Shakira, The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Karol G, Grupo Frontera, Carin Leon, Daddy Yankee, Peso Pluma, Marc Anthony, Nodal, Maluma, Xavi, Nicki Nicole and many more.
In his career as a mixing engineer, Luis Barrera Jr. has achieved numerous awards, with more than 40 nominations by the Latin Recording Academy. In total, he has won 11 Latin Grammys, and one American Grammy.
